Stafoxin (Flucloxacillin Sodium) is an isoxazolyl penicillin which combines the properties of resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase, gastric acid stability and activity against gram-positive bacteria. Flucloxacillin is a bactericidal antibiotic that is particularly useful against penicillinase producing staphylococci.

Stafoxin 250 Capsule: Each capsule contains Flucloxacillin Sodium BP 272.04 mg equivalent to Flucloxacillin 250 mg. Stafoxin 500 Capsule: Each capsule contains Flucloxacillin Sodium BP 544.08 mg equivalent to Flucloxacillin 500 mg. Stafoxin Powder for Suspension: After reconstitution each 5 ml contains Flucloxacillin Sodium BP 136.25 mg equivalent to Flucloxacillin 125 mg.

Skin and soft tissue infections: Boils, abscess, carbuncles, furunculosis, cellulitis, infected skin conditions, e.g. ulcer, eczema, acne, infected wounds, infected burns etc. Bone and joint infections: Osteomyelitis. Post-operative infections: Flucloxacillin is indicated for use as a prophylactic agent during major surgical procedures such as cardiothoracic and orthopedic surgery. Respiratory tract infections: Pneumonia, lung abscess, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media and externa etc. Other infections caused by Flucloxacillin sensitive organisms: Enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, meningitis & septicemia.

Usual adult doses: 250-500 mg four times daily. Oral dosage should be administered half to one hour before meal. Dosage should be doubled in case of severe infections. Usual children dose: 2-10 years : Half of the adult dose. Under 2 years: 12.5 mg to 25 mg/Kg of body-weight four times daily. Systemic dosage of Flucloxacillin may be doubled in severe infections (upto 8 g daily) sush as osteomyelitis, septicernia and endocarditis.

Penicillin hypersensitivity.
\n

Hypersensitive to penicillin or cephalosporin. Older patients receiving Flucloxacillin for longer than two weeks are at a risk of jaundice. In the presence of severe renal failure (creatinine clearance < 10ml/min) a reduction in dosage or an extension of dose interval should be considered.

Gastrointestinal upsets e.g. nausea, diarrhoea and skin rashes have been reported. If skin rash occurs, treatment should be discontinued.

The administration of Probenecid with Flucloxacillin results in higher peak serum concentrations of Flucloxacillin. Physical incompatibility and/or loss of activity of Flucloxacillin have been reported when given with Gentamycin Sulphate, Streptomycin Sulphate and Vitamin mixtures.

Use In Pregnancy & Lactation: The use of Flucloxacillin in pregnancy should be reserved for cases. Use of the drug in the second and third trimesters may result in the sensitization of the fetus. During lactation,

trace quantities of penicillins can be detected in breast milk.

Stafoxin 250 Capsule: Box containing 48 capsules in alu-alu blister pack. Stafoxin 500 Capsule: Box containing 30 capsules in alu-alu blister pack. Stafoxin Powder for Suspension: Bottle containing dry powder for reconstitution of 100 ml suspension.
