Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome. It is active against Gram-positive aerobes and anaerobes as well as the Gram-negative anaerobes. Clindamycin has been shown to be active against most of the isolates of the following microorganisms - Gram-positive aerobes Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae (penicillin-susceptible strains), Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus epidermidis (methicillin-susceptible strains), Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus anginosus, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus mitis Gram-positive & gram-negative anaerobes Prevotella melaninogenica, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, Clostridium perfringens, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella bivia, Propionibacterium acnes, Micromonas ("Peptostreptococcus") micros, Finegoldia ("Peptostreptococcus") magna, Actinomyces israelii, Clostridium clostridioforme, Eubacterium lentum

Clinex-150 Capsule: Each capsule contains Clindamycin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Clindamycin 150 mg. Clinex-300 Capsule: Each capsule contains Clindamycin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Clindamycin 300 mg. Clinex Lotion: Each ml lotion contains Clindamycin Phosphate USP equivalent to Clindamycin 10 mg.

Clinex Capsule: Clindamycin hydrochloride is used in the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria or susceptible strains of gram positive bacteria such as streptococci, staphylococci and pneumococci: Upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, pelvic infections, intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, endocarditis & dental infections. Clinex Lotion: Acne vulgaris: Clinex Lotion is indicated in the treatment of acne vulgaris which are characterized by inflammatory lesions such as papules and pustules. Skin infection: Clinex Lotion is used in the topical treatment of erythrasma, rosacea, periorificial dermatitis, folliculitis, stasis, chronic lymphaedema and familial pemphigus. Clinex Lotion is also used in the treatment of dermal ulcers.

Clinex Capsule: Adults: Serious infections—150 to 300 mg every 6 hours. More severe infections—300 to 450 mg every 6 hours. Clinex Lotion:Cleanse the face or affected area gently with warm water or soap as recommended by the physician. After the skin is dried, apply a thin film of Clinex lotion to the affected areas twice daily, in the morning and in the evening. Do not wash within three hours after using lotion. The treatment period is usually 6 weeks or as advised by the physician. Patient information for Clinex Lotion: 1.This medication is to be used as directed by physician. It is for external use only. 2.Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes. 3.Wash hands immediately after use. 4.Patients should report any sign of local adverse reactions or abdominal pain or diarrhoea to the physician.

Clindamycin is contraindicated in patients previously found to be sensitive to clindamycin or any of the ingredients of this product.

The side effects have been reported with the use of Clindamycin are abdominal pain, oesophagitis and oesophagial ulcer, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, pruritus, dryness, erythema, burning, peeling, oily skin, itching, skin rashes & urticaria.

Clindamycin has been shown to have neuromuscular blocking properties that may enhance the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents. Therefore, it should be used with caution in patients receiving such agents. Antagonism has been demonstrated between clindamycin and erythromycin in vitro. Because of possible clinical significance, these two drugs should not be administered concurrently.

Use in pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. So this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use in pregnancy: Clindamycin has been reported to appear in breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended for nursing mothers if not clearly needed. Use in geriatric patients: Dose adjustment of Clindamycin is not necessary.
